7 Questions to Ask Before Booking a Long-Stay Hotel in Chennai

Before booking a long stay in Chennai, ask about the exact room type, kitchen contents, rate and taxes for your dates, lift access, check-in and check-out times, and distance to your destination. Hotel Royal Inn's check-in is 1 PM, check-out 11 AM, with a lift and a 24-hour desk.
Why do long stays need different questions?
A night at a hotel is forgiving. If the pillow is bad or the Wi-Fi is slow, you cope. Over ten days the same small problems add up. Asking sensible questions before you pay is the cheapest way to avoid them.
Here are seven that are worth putting to any hotel. Where I can, I have added what Hotel Royal Inn in Thousand Lights has said about itself.
None of these questions is rude. A good hotel is glad to answer them, because a guest who understands the arrangement is a guest who will not be disappointed later.
Write the answers down. A short note on your phone with the room name, rate, dates and the person you spoke to is handy if anything needs checking later.
1. Which exact room, and what does it contain?
Ask for the room category by name, not just 'a kitchen room'. At Hotel Royal Inn the options are the Deluxe Double Room, the Triple Occupancy Room and the 1BHK Room. Only the kitchen rooms and family suites have a kitchenette, with a stove, sink and counter. Ask what else is in the room, such as utensils or somewhere to store food.
If your party is larger than two, check how the room handles it. The Triple Occupancy Room has a comfort double bed and a single bed for three guests, and the Deluxe Double is set up for one or two.
Ask for the names of the room types in the same order each time you compare hotels. It keeps you from comparing a kitchen room in one place with a plain room in another.
2. What is the rate, and what is added to it?
Rates at Hotel Royal Inn are per room, per night: Deluxe Double from Rs 1,800 for one guest and Rs 2,000 for two, Triple Occupancy Room Rs 2,500 for three, 1BHK Room Rs 2,800 for two. The hotel asks you to reconfirm the current rate and any applicable taxes at booking. Ask for the final figure for your whole stay, in writing if you can, so there are no surprises at check-out.
Also ask whether the rate holds if you extend, since a longer stay sometimes means re-checking the tariff. Do not assume that the first quote applies to dates you add later.
If your plans might change, ask how cancellations and date changes are handled. Hotels differ, and it is far better to hear the answer on the phone before you pay than to discover it later.
3. How do check-in, check-out and late arrivals work?
Check-in is at 1 PM and check-out at 11 AM. Reception and restaurant service run 24 hours, which matters if your train or flight lands at an awkward hour. If you will arrive before 1 PM, ask what is possible rather than assuming.
If you travel with someone who finds stairs hard, tell the desk before you arrive, so the room can be chosen with that in mind. It is much easier than negotiating at the counter after a long journey.
4. Is there a lift, and is the room easy to reach?
This matters for elderly parents, anyone recovering from a procedure and families with luggage and children. Hotel Royal Inn has lift access to all floors. Still, ask which floor your room will be on and whether you can request one that is easier for your family.
It is also worth asking about the area at night. Model School Road and the lanes around it are busy during the day, and a quick word from reception about the best route home after dark is sensible for anyone travelling alone.
5. How far is it from where you need to be?
Walking distance changes how a long stay feels. The hotel lists Thousand Lights Metro at about 4 minutes on foot, AG-DMS Metro about 5 minutes, Apollo Hospital on Greams Road 8 to 9 minutes and the US Consulate General 8 to 12 minutes. Those are walking estimates, so allow extra in heat or rain, or if someone walks slowly.
Housekeeping expectations differ from hotel to hotel. Ask whether the room is cleaned daily and whether you can skip a day if you want privacy while someone is resting.
6 and 7. How is housekeeping handled, and how do you reach someone at night?
For a long stay, ask how often the room is cleaned and how you request extra towels or linen. And ask who to call in the small hours. Hotel Royal Inn reception is staffed round the clock.
When you have your list, call or WhatsApp +91 88077 08681 with dates and the number of guests, and ask them directly.
