Budgeting a Month-Long Hotel Stay in Chennai: A Worked Example

At Hotel Royal Inn's current nightly rates, 30 nights come to Rs 54,000 for a Deluxe Double with one guest, Rs 60,000 with two guests, Rs 75,000 for the Triple Occupancy Room and Rs 84,000 for the 1BHK Room, before taxes. Rates should be reconfirmed, and any long-stay arrangement must be asked about directly.
What does a month at our nightly rates actually cost?
The simplest budget starts with arithmetic you can check yourself. Hotel Royal Inn charges per room, per night: Rs 1,800 for the Deluxe Double with one guest, Rs 2,000 with two guests, Rs 2,500 for the Triple Occupancy Room and Rs 2,800 for the 1BHK Room.
Multiply by 30 nights and you get Rs 54,000, Rs 60,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 84,000 respectively. Those figures exclude any taxes and any discount. Please do not assume a monthly rate. If you plan a stay of a month, call +91 88077 08681 and ask whether a longer-stay arrangement is possible, then ask for the total in writing or on WhatsApp.
Always reconfirm the current rate and any applicable taxes at the time of booking. A budget built on an old number is the most common source of surprises.
- 14 nights: Rs 25,200, Rs 28,000, Rs 35,000 or Rs 39,200
- 21 nights: Rs 37,800, Rs 42,000, Rs 52,500 or Rs 58,800
- 28 nights: Rs 50,400, Rs 56,000, Rs 70,000 or Rs 78,400
Which room gives the best value for a long stay?
The cheapest room per night is not always the cheapest room per stay. The 1BHK Room has an in-room kitchenette with a stove, sink and counter, so a family that cooks most meals can reduce eating-out costs. The Deluxe Double has no kitchenette listed, so meals will come from restaurants or delivery.
A rough way to test this is to estimate what you would spend on food per day if you ate out, then subtract what you would spend on groceries if you cooked. If the saving is larger than the rate difference, the 1BHK Room pays for itself. We cannot give you grocery prices, since they vary week to week, so use your own recent bills.
Do not forget comfort. Over thirty nights, a wide bed, a living-style layout and a counter to put things on make a real difference to how the stay feels.
What other costs should you plan for?
A month-long stay has a few lines that new guests often forget. Local transport, food, phone data, laundry, pharmacy, small repairs and a buffer for the unexpected. List them in a simple sheet and estimate each one weekly.
For transport, Chennai Metro fares were published as a series of distance slabs, from Rs 10 for up to 2 km to Rs 50 beyond 21 km, with 20 per cent off for QR or smart card tickets, according to reports on the fare revision. Fares can change, so check the Chennai Metro Rail fare table before you plan around a number. Thousand Lights Metro is about 4 minutes on foot from the hotel and AG-DMS about 5 minutes.
For autos, ask for the meter. A July 2026 report said fares last changed in 2013 and a revision was still under discussion, so confirm the amount before you travel.
How do you track spending without it becoming a chore?
Use one note on your phone or a small notebook. Write the date and amount for each spend and a one-word category. At the end of each week, add it up, compare it with your plan and adjust the next week.
Pay the hotel in an agreed way and keep the receipt. If you pay in instalments, note the dates. Keep the booking confirmation and rate message on WhatsApp so you can show them if there is a question.
Set aside a buffer of at least ten per cent of the total. Extra days, a cab to the airport or an unexpected purchase will almost always use it.
How should you book to protect the budget?
Book the first week, then extend weekly if your plans are uncertain, or ask about a longer booking if your dates are firm. Ask what happens if you leave early, and ask what happens if you need to stay longer. Rooms in the area can fill, so an extension request made early is more likely to work.
Check-in is at 1 PM and check-out at 11 AM. Plan the first and last days so you do not pay for hours you will not use, and ask the reception for guidance if your train or flight does not fit those times.
A month is a long time, and a calm, written plan of rates, dates and expectations makes it easier.
What are the most common mistakes in the first month?
The first mistake is paying for a month in full without asking about the terms. Ask what happens if you leave early or stay longer, and keep the answer in writing. The second is cooking too much, since leftovers spoil quickly in Chennai's heat. The third is forgetting the small costs of transport and laundry, which add up over thirty nights.
A fourth mistake is choosing a room only on price. A guest who cooks may spend less in the 1BHK Room despite a higher nightly rate, while a guest who eats out will be better off in a Deluxe Double. Do the sum for your own habits.
Finally, keep a record. A short note of dates, amounts and receipts is all you need, and it makes any conversation with the hotel quick and friendly.
